Our Programs
Initiatives for Just Communities (IJC) provides residential support, vocational training, and assistance in designing futures of possibility for individuals with intellectual disabilities. We run residential homes, day programming, outreach supports, home shares, supported living clusters, drop-in programs, as well as an alternative justice program for men with intellectual disabilities who have come into conflict with the law. Our goal is to provide participants with the best opportunities for growth, connection, independence, and healing.
The vision of IJC is to create communities where each person, particularly the stigmatized and the vulnerable, has a place to belong. We believe that all are created equal, recognizing and honouring our diverse cultural realities. We value the experiences of all, with an emphasis on community, compassion, restorative justice, advocacy and transparency in our work, which includes:
Touchstone
Offers one-on-one mentorship for individuals navigating daily life challenges. Participants receive support accessing resources, setting goals, and strengthening their personal well-being.
Circles of Support & Accountability
Supports the healthy reintegration of people with high-risk offence cycles as they are released from prison and settle back into the community.
El’dad
Provides residential support, vocational training and assistance, and support for people with intellectual disabilities.
Open Circle
Cncourages volunteers to visit individuals in prison and offer caring non-judgemental support.
Visions & Voices
A speakers’ bureau comprised of adults with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD). Visions and Voices seeks to increase awareness in communities in order to reduce the stigma of FASD and to encourage healthy living.
